Specifications of Data Center Power Density

Conventional methods for specifying data center density can be ambiguous and misleading. Describing data center density using watts per square foot or watts per square meter is no longer sufficient. To determine power or cooling compatibility with high density computing loads like blade servers, new measurement criteria is needed. Historically, no standard method of specifying data centers to achieve predictable behavior with high density loads has existed. When specifying data center density, factors such as compatibility, over-sizing, and maximization of electrical efficiency should be considered. This course will explore an improved method of specifying power density.
• At the completion of this course, you will be able to: • Explain various power density specification methods • Recognize the limitations of conventional power density specification methods • Define power density specification requirements • Identify practical constraints and options • Utilize a deployment strategy • Describe the practical guidelines for use in a data center
